Catching Up with a Dew Cup Champion

How’d you feel going into the final stop of Dew Tour?

I felt really confident for sure. I felt like I knew there was a good possibility of me leaving there with a win and the Cup, but I also didn’t want to think I had anything in the bag until I was actually carrying that trophy, so I was still really nervous.

I saw you up on the ramp watching Robbie’s last run. What was going through your mind at that point?

 I felt like I knew I should have took the win no matter what he did in his second run there, but at the same time, you never know what the judges are going to think.  It’s kinda like, “alright, I’m hoping I’ve got this right now, but if not, I’m prepared to do my run.”  There was some stuff I bobbled a little bit in my first run that I knew I could have cleaned up for sure in my second run.

How pumped are you now coming off a tough year at X Games and now claiming your first Dew Cup?

I’m really pumped because after X, you know, I didn’t get to ride and I was really down on that. I figured anything I did the rest of the year wouldn’t really matter anymore because I didn’t ride. I know not riding X is still a low point in my year, but I feel like I made up for it a little bit by ending my year like this.  I’m pretty pumped because last year, I won the gold and then got hurt. So, this year I got hurt and then I won some stuff, so I just did it backwards.

I saw your face up there on the stage during the Award Ceremony. How bad did you want to go out and celebrate with your buddies?

Really bad. Also, I don’t know, but  there’s something about talking in front of a bunch of people when I don’t have my helmet on or I’m not with my bike, I get pretty damn nervous! I was sweatin’ knowing I had to be interviewed in front of all those people. I felt like I was back in high school again.

How did you end up celebrating the win?

I just went out to the Dew After Party. Everybody went there; the place was packed. I actually have a couple buddies that I grew up with down in Florida so I met up with those guys.  We just went to the After Party, hung out and had some beers.

How excited are you to become a dad?

I am so excited! I’m nervous at the same time, but I think that’s just because I just found out like a week and a half ago. I think the nervous will wear off once it becomes more of a reality, you know. Once I see my wife starting to get bigger and going to some of the doctor’s appointments with her, I think it will be really cool for sure.

What’s next?

What’s next is definitely a lot of couch potato-ing! I’ve been riding a lot and been really busy these past couple months, so I just need a little bit of time off. I just need to relax and spend time with my family here for a little bit.
